The Elixir of Love, (Italian: “L’elisir d’amore” or “The Love Potion”) comic opera in two acts by the Italian composer Gaetano Donizetti. The opera tells a story about Nemorino, a young villager, who is madly in love with the beautiful business owner Adina, who he thinks is beyond his reach. A Sergeant Belcore attempts to seduce Adina causes the frustrated Nemorino to reach out to a traveling purveyor of medicines, Dr. Dulcamara who sells Nemorino a fake love potion.
KLCO’s Elixir of Love this year will feature a double cast for the principal roles of Adina, Nemorino, Sergeant Belcore, Doctor Dulcamara. Soprano Ho Chi Mei, and Soprano Tan Sin Sim will play the role of Adina, Tenor Tan Chee Shen, and Tenor Heo Yueh Ren will play the role of Nemorino. Baritone Seow Chee Chuan, and Baritone Samuel Lim will play the role of Sergeant Belcore, and last but not least, Baritone James Long Cai Hunt and Baritone Wilson Loh will be Dr. Dulcamara. All the abovementioned Principal Artistes have sung in KLCO’s production before with the exception of Baritone Seow Chee Chuan who will make his debut with the company.
