The Godown presents Bakul: Everyday Baskets from Sabah from January 7 to February, 2023. This 7-week long exhibition showcases the bakul collection of Sabahan author and collector Jennifer P. Linggi and wants to momentarily transport you into their world:
~ To know these baskets is to go into their world. And this world springs from rattan, bamboo, bemban, mengkuang and other plants from the jungle. It is also from the sun, the rain, the mud, the leeches, the insects, the microbes, the things that make up the fierce forest. Each basket is a kind of fresh wonder, a transformation, from a plant, cut, carried back to a village, shaved, peeled, woven, filled with rice, strapped on the human back, trapping fish, carrying a mountainfull of bananas, storing medicine, working, carrying a baby ~ Ling Hao
This is a no-shoes exhibition at the Main Hall of The Godown. Opens daily 12pm-6pm (Mon-Thu), 12pm – 7pm (Fri-Sun). Admission is free with registration via the link in our bio.
