The unearthed serenity in a mother’s sarong. The smell of burnt photos. And what if forgetting is not erasure, but mere misplacement?
Alu & Lesung is an experimental + multisensorial theatre production exploring the themes of loss of security and dreams of healing.
This project zooms in on individuals who are private about their own challenges and struggles. Vulnerable moments are often kept to themselves and away from others, even from the people close to them. Audiences take on a voyeuristic lens by peeking into these private moments. This production utilizes movement, minimal text in various languages, scent, light, sound, and projections. Alu & Lesung is the fifth production of Theatresauce’s 2023 season.
This production features an all-female ensemble made up of Aila, Lim Sheng Hui and Tharanii Karthigesu. Lighting and multimedia designs are by Syamsul Azhar, while iwaz designs the production’s soundscape. Production and stage management by Shevone Seow and Violacea Low. Directed by Dexter Zhen.
Content Warning
Alu & Lesung explores themes involving violence and sexuality. Loud sounds, bright lights, strobe lights, and real scents are used. Viewer discretion is advised. For mature audiences.
