Dvořák’s Serenades

Originally an evening song of courtship, the serenade became a suite of instrumental pieces during the 18th century. Composed during a particularly fruitful period, Dvořák’s Serenade for Strings was his first work to gain resounding popularity. His melodic gifts and love for folk music are further featured in the charming Serenade for Winds – its contrasting moods tinged with nostalgia for a bygone era. Naohisa Furusawa conducts.
