The Weight of Our Sky

The International School of Kuala Lumpur is proud to announce that it has been granted special permission to dramatically adapt internationally-celebrated author, Hanna Alkaf’s, debut novel – The Weight of Our Sky. It follows the story of a young girl, Melati, who is separated from her mom during the 1969 riots in Kuala Lumpur. In her search for her mother, she is assisted by a Chinese family and many other community members which so beautifully demonstrates the shared humanity that lives in us all – the message of the novel.

On 14 November 2023, Hanna Alkaf will be visiting ISKL in the afternoon to watch an excerpt of the play, deliver a keynote address, as well as hold a book signing. On 15, 16, and 17 November 2023 the production will be open for viewing in the Dr Norma J. Hudson Amphitheatre. The play will commence at sunset (6.57 PM). Admission is free.
