2021 marks the much-anticipated return of klpac’s iconic Theatre for Young People (T4YP) programme, enabled by @creadorfoundation since 2019.
In an intensive five-day workshop marathon with @panaspanastheatre, the T4YP 2021 ensemble takes on and performs a stage reading of “Kuala Lumpur Knock-Out” by award-winning playwright Ann Lee. The critically-acclaimed work will now be revisited 25 years later by the T4YP 2021 ensemble as part of their mid-term showcase to challenge them to apply ideas and skills they have acquired in the last two months.
KL knock-out revolves around a young factory worker from Penang who dreams of fighting Mike Tyson in an exhibition boxing match in Kuala Lumpur. At the same time, her best friend Mazuri, experiences an unpleasant incident at her workplace.
The performance will be directed by Arief Hamizan, Co-Founder and Artistic Director of Panas Panas Theatre, who is also an alumnus of T4YP 2012.
