KESUMA was initially formed by a group of students at Universiti Malaya in 1971 to promote traditional Malay dance on campus. To extend the performance, such as choreography, music costumes and accessories KESUMA replicated the national dance troupe. It embodied the repertoires of the National Cultural Complex (Kompleks Budaya Negara/KBN). Comprising the Dance Department’s lecturers, alumni, and students, it has evolved into UM’s official traditional dance ensemble, achieving unparalleled artistic excellence. Additionally, UMa Dance was established in 2007 to enable its dance students to showcase contemporary works featuring new and challenging choreography. Despite being an emerging company, it has grown as a seasoned performing group well-known in the industry. Don’t miss your chance to witness the artistic blend of traditional and contemporary dances.
