Starting in 1963, Mikk pursued his love for art, eventually graduating from the University of London, St. Mary’s College, in 1968. He then ventured into the world of computer science but returned to teaching art and technology in various countries, including Singapore, The Bahamas, Thailand, the UK, and Malaysia. In 2010, Mikk retired to Penang, Malaysia, reigniting his artistic spark.
Mikk’s wood carvings draw inspiration from the shapes and textures of Coral entities and the creatures that inhabit Coral reefs, emphasizing the intricate spiral patterns found in Ammonites and Nautilus shells. These spirals are the foundation of the Golden Ratio and the Fibonacci Sequence, which have influenced art and mathematics for centuries. Mikk also uses Acacia and Angsanna wood as his source material for wood art.
His journey from fine art to computer science and back to art has enriched his creative expression and allowed him to merge the worlds of technology and nature in his artwork.
