Movieland. The silver screen. “Light, “Camera” and “Action.” Take a musical trip through yesteryears’ movies and relive the magic of signature song and dance hits of the Mandarin Golden Oldies era (1930s-1960s) when the cinemascopes of opulent Shanghai and the flourishing city of Hong Kong reigned supreme.
Shaw Brothers and Cathay Cinema spearheaded the musical genres on the silver screens, reaching far into the Chinese communities in Southeast Asia. Enjoy a sumptuous visual feast of signature songs and dance tunes – popularized by Zhou Xuan, Bai Guang, Li Xianglan, Yao Lee, Lin Dai, Ge Lan, etc. – from the days of black-and-white films to the contemporary films in technicolor.
