BACKGROUND OF ARTISTS
Alena Murang
Alena Murang is the first and few professional female sape’ musicians. Singing in the endangered Kenyah and Kelabit languages, Alena uses music as a way to tell old and contemporary stories of her people. She has played at festivals worldwide, including Taiwan, Iceland, Australia, the US and Panama.
Joshua Maran
Joshua Maran is a multi-instrumentalist music producer, composer, performer and music teacher. He has been actively involved in the local music scene for over 20 years, playing in, composing and producing for many bands and artists. In the last 7 years, he helped pioneer the Kelabit tribe’s efforts in heritage and language preservation through music production, music education, folksong harvesting and documentation.
Jonathan Wong Ketshin
Jonathan Wong Ketshin is a multi-instrumentalist and music educator. Predominantly a stage performer, he is fluent in jazz adjacent styles such as contemporary world music, jazz fusion, and improvised music. He has performed at festivals in Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan and Australia. Off stage, Jonathan is a music teacher, transcriber, and music arranger.
