| Synopsis : | For six consecutive days, artist Jay Koh will station himself at the Remember to Come coffeeshop in Seri Kembangan, where he will be giving out art objects for free to the folks from Seri Kembangan, who he also hopes to have a drink and shoot the breeze with. The artworks are created especially for the residents, in a contemporary public art project engaging with them and the history of Seri Kembangan. Through social interactive activities, e.g. having a drink together, visiting the residents, photographing the art work in their homes and understanding more about their daily life in Seri Kembangan, the artist hopes to create a bridge between contemporary art production and people in their daily lives. Born here in Southeast Asia, Jay Koh lived in Europe for over 20 years. He is married to a resident of Seri Kembangan, and has been living there since 2001. His work took him to over 30 countries, where he taught, lectured and produced art. Most of these works are connected to working with the public and communities. In his current project in Dublin, Ireland, he is working to create cross-cultural interaction between the new Chinese community from Northeast (Dongbei) China and the Iocal Irish communities. This public interactive art activitiy is part of the Entry Points programme organised by 1948 Artspace. Supported by The Annexe Central Market Grants for Grabs and the Arts Council of Ireland. |
