Synopsis : "The Platform" is, as the name suggests, an open platform for new talents (in the fields of drama/ theatre/ physical theatre only) to strut their stuff, with original and spanking new material that has neither been published nor performed before.

New talent aside, The Platform is also open to established talent who may want to venture out of their ‘comfort zones’ and try things that they may not be known for.

At the end of each showcase, one piece will be singled out and at the end of 2008, all the selected individuals or teams will be given the task of collaborating together to stage their own production, with some creative and artistic help from the folks at KLPac.

If you would like to submit your material and secure a slot, read the rules & regulations first and then email theplatform@klpac.com.

shockingly, there were 44 votes and the event has been rated 'disappointing'...I am eager to know the why. What has been the expectation for such event? Well, since the aim is to nurture new talents.
huh?

Well, if you plus together Gavin Yap's awkward public speaking and amateur performances like the January one with the apples WHO ACTUALLY GOT SELECTED and the hard floors of Indecine - it's really no wonder that it's been rated as disappointing. Joe oh Joe, what's happening here?

platform regular,
I do not know what you mean by 'awkward', maybe it's quite personal. As for the amateur performance, when this event is for beginners, the plays are probably raw, so do the skills and execution, they got selected may not necessarily mean they are great, but maybe the potential is present (I do not know then), maybe it's about the story's concept, structure or plot...that we need to nurture fresh faces, I think what that's interesting for the Platform is the unpredictability. As for the hard floors, no comment for that.

Then again, is heavy scrutiny really necessary?

For what it is worth, honestly I do not think that one can be too harsh on the performances here. While it would be nice to see wonderful shows, but the platform is meant to be a 'platform' for new talents. You can't expect something completely polish for this. So I don't think KLPAC, Joe or whoever is doing anything off because at least they are encouraging some youths or whoever out there to try.

Last night's platform was the best yet. Two pieces of hardcore realist drug/HIV awareness theatre, some scathing agit-theatre satire of the whole platform and KLPac 'scene' and something I found incomprehensible but a Frenchman in the audience loved.

Gavin cut down his intro beautifully, and the biggest sore point for me was when we descended into 'the actor's world' of talking about methods and Stanislavski and Suzuki and a couple of members in the audience actually appeaared sexually aroused by it.

Wow, seriously that was the best platform ever.............. I loved the social commentary piece!
Nice of Gavin to take the teasing so well...
"Where are the lesbians?" Loved it!
