| Synopsis : | With a sound based around the organ with drums and saxophone, and with sonic references to some classic organ-based groups of the 50s and 60s, the Greg Lyons Monster Trio features the combined talents of three major forces in the South-East Asian jazz scene: Singaporean boy wonder/ organist Chok Kerong - whose legendary piano skills have morphed into some serious organ chops in the last two years since the trio’s inception. On the verge of moving to New York, this will be Chok’s last engagement in this part of the world for a while. Australian drummer Darren Moore - a child of the Melbourne and London scenes and one of the most in-demand jazz drummers in this part of the world, he's capable of anything from trip-hop to free jazz - basically whatever the situation calls for. British saxophonist Greg Lyons - leader of the band who has made South East Asia his home for the past 15 years. Through an inability to fit into neat labels, he has literally created a scene of his own in the process, with his compositions and irreverent takes on popular tunes forming the backbone of the group's sound. Part of Alexis Bistro's International Jazz Series. |
