Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS is proud to present a spectacular performance by renowned Venezuelan ensemble, Huáscar Barradas Latin Trio on Monday, 23 April 12 at 8.30 p.m. This special performance is in collaboration with the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Malaysia in conjunction with the 7th Venezuelan Week in Kuala Lumpur.
Led by international flutist Huáscar Barradas, the ensemble consists of bassist/arranger Elvis Martinez and cuatro virtuoso Jorge Polanco, one of the best in Venezuela. It is a formidable ensemble of infinite qualities of Venezuelan music with innovative music arrangements, and full of virtuosity and depth that have been showcased at major music festivals and theatres in over 25 countries. The group has also released 3 CDs internationally.
Huáscar Barradas himself is a composer, arranger, producer and Latin Grammy Award nominee. A contemporary artist with a renaissance spirit, Huáscar is a pioneer of the Venezuelan musical movement Neo-Folklore where he combines folk, jazz, classic and contemporary musical tendencies in a very unique approach. From Bach to The Beatles, he plays it all!
He studied at renowned conservatories and universities in Venezuela, Germany and the USA. A prolific recording artist with 14 CDs under his belt, he also lectures on the ‘Interpretation of Latin American Music’ at universities, conservatories and festivals every year.
He plays at an average of one hundred concerts a year at music festivals and theatres worldwide, such as Festival de la Radio France en Montpellier, Hamburg Flute Festival, Expo-Hannover, USA National Flute Association Convention and Festival Internacional de Música Contemporánea-Bogotá, among others.
For its debut performance at DFP, the trio will showcase a variety of popular Venezuelan music and other songs such as My Favourite Things, El cóndor pasa and Volver/El dia que me quieras.

Note: The trio will be supporting the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra’s Education & Outreach Programme (Encounter)’s outreach programme at Krash Pad on Tuesday, 24 April 12 at 4.00 p.m. The event is co-sponsored by ExxonMobil. Krash Pad, a one-stop centre of unregistered local children, is located at 346, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Kuala Lumpur (near Chow Kit and Tune Hotel).
